The Art Residency of Ocaña is a magical space above the main project in a building of the XIXth century. In 2017, we decided to dedicate this space as a place where artists who are aligned with the values of Ocaña´s project could come and produce work.

Back then, Bombon Projects, a cutting-edge contemporary art gallery based in Barcelona, invited an artist to participate in our first residency. As we worked so well with the gallery, we offered them to be in charge of the selection of the artists we invited to form part of the residency programme.

This is how we had the chance to have Josep Mayunou as a resident. He created, in less than two months, a spectacular set of 143 pieces of tableware. Each piece is a tale, a story, and a frame of episodes Josep lived and experienced in Ocaña.

“Josep Maynou’s multidisciplinary approach comes together as a form of contemporary storytelling that situates itself beyond the traditional art formats, often leading to installations in places such as TV repair shops, private apartments, abandoned spaces, laundromats or second-hand stores. His rugs, like his posters or his lamps are inevitably transfigured when they enter the space of contemporary art but, once again, they become everyday objects and props for his performances.”
