The Three Chimneys is an iconic landmark along Barcelona’s coastal skyline. The former thermal power station, which had remained closed since 2011, was reopened to the public thanks to Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana. Under the leadership of founding director Hedwig Fijen and her dedicated team, the venue was activated with a meaningful purpose and made accessible to a broader audience.
As Events Coordinator for Manifesta 15, I had the unique privilege of shaping the Opening Ceremony at the Three Chimneys and an extraordinary opportunity to engage directly with the challenges and possibilities of this monumental site. Working alongside a highly skilled team, I coordinated every aspect of the event — from lighting design and visitor flow to programming and logistics.
From concept to execution, I helped shape the ceremony from architectural planning to lived experience, culminating in an unforgettable evening attended by over three thousand guests from both the local and international art scenes. It was a celebration not only of the city and its cultural possibilities but also of what can emerge when heritage and contemporary vision meet.
